OUR SCHOOL – ST MARY’S PRIMARY SCHOOL, BANBRIDGE
St. Mary’s Primary School is the principle Catholic primary school situated in the historical linen town of Banbridge in Co. Down, Northern Ireland. The pupils attending our school are aged between 4 and 12.
There is a school population of approximately 500. The school is made up of a variety of social and economic backgrounds, some from disadvantaged, low income and single parent families.
Within recent years, our school community has become more diverse and we celebrate the cultures present within our school in relation to both staff and pupils.
Our school educates children from nursery to year 7. We have specialized teaching facilities for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and those with specific learning difficulties.
Our staff both teaching and non-teaching are highly qualified and professional in their approaches to the teaching and learning that takes place in our school. Our school, St. Mary’s, is fully subscribed and offers a wide range of extracurricular activities both in school hours and out of school hours.
Children have the opportunity to attend our popular breakfast club, which allows working parents to work at a range of jobs and careers to support their families. Our After Schools Club extends the learning that takes place in school through a fun and stimulating environment.
Parents also avail of our After School Club. We are a school that prides itself in its involvement in a range of sporting and musical activities. We offer choir, opportunities to play new instruments, such as guitar, flute, African drums amongst many others.
Our pupils have many opportunities to be involved in netball, soccer, Gaelic, table tennis, indoor bowls, Irish dancing, art clubs, astrology, fitness clubs as well as an athletics club. At St.Mary’s we offer a broad and balanced child centred curriculum, which develops our children’s knowledge and understanding. St. Mary’s Primary School strive for excellence, empowering children to be happy and responsive.
Children are challenged with the delivery of an enriched and creative curriculum. We are an inclusive school that develops independence, responsibility and kindness through the delivery of an extensive pastoral care programme. Through this we help prepare our pupils to become citizens of the wider world.
